Copenhagen, March 1 (Petra) - Danish shipping giant Maersk announced on Sunday that it plans to reroute its vessels travelling from the Middle East to India via the Mediterranean Sea and to redirect ships heading from the region to the eastern coast of the United States via the Cape of Good Hope, due to the situation in the region.

According to the economic news agency Bloomberg News, the company said in a statement that it will temporarily suspend its voyages through the Suez Canal and the Bab al-Mandab Strait while continuing to accept shipments bound for the Middle East.

The world’s second-largest container shipping company attributed its decision to the "deterioration of the security situation in the Middle East following the escalation of the military conflict," according to the statement issued after an attack carried out by the United States and Israel on Iran and Tehran’s announcement of closing navigation.

The company confirmed the continuation of the suspension of all vessel transits through the Strait of Hormuz until further notice, noting that as a result, services stopping at ports in the Arabian Gulf may experience delays, route changes, or schedule adjustments.
